SIFF Films playing September 5 thru 11

Spend Saturday at SIFF Cinema!  Try saying THAT three times real fast!

Start your Saturday cinematic journey at 10AM with the classic family fantasy The Secret of Roan Inish. Then enjoy a relaxed, hearty lunch in the nearby Queen Anne area and get back to SIFF Cinema by 2PM for Masaki Kobayashi 's epic film The Human Condition, Part One: No Greater Love. A 206 minute movie masterpiece, this is THE film event of the summer, so whatever you do, don't miss this once in a life-time opportunity to see this precious gem (with a NEW 35mm Cinemascope print! Yea!).
And what about Saturday night? Well, If that's not enough cinema for ya, you can grab a quick dinner and then go visit the Seattle Big Picture (or Redmond) at 8PM and see SIFF 2008's Closing Night Gala film Bottle Shock. The wineries featured in the film (Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and Chateau Montelena) have released a small amount of their highly-allocated wines for The Big Picture to feature during their weeklong run of Bottle Shock. Both will be available by the glass and by the bottle until their limited supply runs out. I don't know what the prices are, but since you can drink while you watch movies at the Big Picture, how could you resist just one glass while you enjoy Alan Rickman's Golden Space Needle award winning performance?     Cheers!

Sooo...what other 35mm gems are in town showing on a big screen (where they belong) this week? The Northwest Film Forum is screening NEW 35mm prints of a pair of early Alain Robbe-Grillet films (The Immortal Woman & Trans–Europe–Express) on Saturday and Sunday ONLY!.....And The Grand Illusion is showing the classic western Destry Rides Again, the Metro is showing The Dirty Dozen (Wednesday ONLY) and the Varsity continues a new Japanese anime called The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Lots of wonderful films to choose from this week! And on a semi-SIFF related note, the Pang Brothers have remade their SIFF 2001 film Bangkok Dangerous with a big Hollywood budget and a big Hollywood star (Nicholas Cage) and they've called it....Bangkok Dangerous. I wonder which version is better.

There is a total of one return arrival of SIFF 2008 films this week: La France.
